Army Cutting 500 Majors Starting Next Week

The Army will send notices to 500 majors next week that they must leave the service, the outgoing Army vice chief of staff said.

This is absolutely a step in the wrong direction, LTC Private RallyPoint Member. It is also the result of a President who still cannot admit that we are at war with radical Islamists. Our Military is now on the brink of being a dysfunctional "mess", and at least for the next year it will not be getting any better. I believe that these Officers will be sorely needed in the very near future.

Any CPT/MAJ from the active component getting the axe should check out the Guard and Reserve. Provided that the axe is from a force reduction and not quality marks there are lots of places to continue service

Honestly I see no need for an excessive amount of officers in the rank of Major; LTC's command battalions, captains command companies. So unless there are command positions specifically set up for Majors then I see no need for so many other than those who serve as Staff Officers directly serving their commanders but you don't need 10 of them per command.

Maybe, depends on who received the pink slips. The Army may someday need to get bigger, and if we do, we'll need experienced people to run the new units. We can't instantly grow experienced leaders if we need more units. Just a thought.
