Are there promotion boards while on recruiting duty?

I’m an E5 and recently got DA selected for recruiting and was wondering if there are E6 promotion boards at your respective recruiting battalion? I’ve been hearing both yes and no but no reliable answer. thanks for any help

Yes, I was DA selected as a SGT and went to the board within my first year on recruiting duty. The questions asked were general leadership as well as MOS specific. A few questions were specific for recruiting but it wasn’t difficult. GL

I arrived there as a non promotable E5 SGT. The first month they ask me to go to the next board, unlike your current unit where they look at how many they have and who to move up, in recruiting everyone in your center can be a SSG. In my almost 4 years you very rarely see a SGT E5. If so you know he just got out there or got in trouble lol.

Yes, I went to the SSG board while I was in recruiting duty. I was in Richmond (Beckley) Battalion. They held boards every month. I had some friends who also went to recruiting duty but were in California, they were never allowed to attend the board. Their CSM told them that the Infantry was responsible for promoting them, not USAREC.
Good luck bud, and don’t let this board be the only thing you do. Get some college, do volunteer work to get your MOVSM, go to the SAMC board. Recruiting can be a very helpful three years to your career.

If someone is telling you no, they weren't on recruiting duty. There are promotion boards every month and NCO of the QTR/year boards.

Absolutely, to a point. On the Navy side I've seen "permanent" recruiters capped at E-7 and O-4 by mutual agreement. They never have to move again and can serve out their 20. A number of them had dependants that needed specialized medical, etc. and it worked out well.

Your recruiting Battalion should still be holding promotion boards monthly and usually still hold competitive boards as well.
