Are the black berets frowned on? My son is in a medical unit and he says that no one on base wears them in garrison. Just wondering why?

Because 8 years ago, top brass got some common sense and let the army have the PC back. Black beret is worn for ceremony type stuff. Decided it was better for regular Army to be just that instead of trying to be like the smaller beret wearing types.

I may be the only one who didn't mind the beret. Its maybe the only piece of head gear I've seen you can't get away with wearing wrong or improperly. The PC is far more practical for sure, yet the beret needed to shaped and maintained instead of thrown on like a baseball cap or oversized.
I wear mine for our dine-out ceremonies or military funerals. That's about it.

I hated that damned thing. I wouldn't have minded if it was used just for the Class A or Class B uniforms, but for everyday wear it didn't make sense.

Because it’s dumb, not practical, and quite possibly the 2nd worst headgear in the Army.

It was an ok piece of the uniform to wear, but should have stayed with those who earned them. The PC or boonie was so much better though.
