Are permanent profiles unspokenly treated as a lesser value within your unit?

Today a young SPC was looking into DTMS and saw there were 2 new SFCs inbound to his unit and it said they both have permanent profiles. He said very casually, uh oh my 1SG isn't going to like that. He absolutely hates people who are on profile. It seems to me he just said what is unspoken and yet such a common attitude. Do senior leaders emote an attitude of disdain towards permanent profiles to the extent that they become categorized automatically within the unit as lesser people and "worthless" .

When I was in, SFC Private RallyPoint Member, there was a lot of this. I retired in 2006. Nowadays, though, with the injuries troops have sustained in Iraq and Afghanistan, I would hope that the stigma against profiles would have diminished.

the stigma against profiles is still highly prevalent in the army. Having to have my knee replaced has limited my running ability. and while the first reaction from those in the unit are negative against my profile. My work ethic and knowledge quikly overwhelms their disdain for profiles.

There is a stigma with folks that have PT profiles and "C" profiles that either limit, prevent or require additional waivers for deployments in the AF. That is just the was it is.

SFC Private RallyPoint Member I think it really depends on how the Soldier handles themselves. If they have a profile and still want to and do stuff that they can do without violating their profile then many would actually gain more respect. Others try to milk everything and utilize "oh I have a profile" and try to get out of everything and avoid every detail that is where the "permanent profile" gets its bad name.

Not only does unit leadership, but I would go as far and say the the Army thinks people with permanent profiles as 'lesser Soldiers'.

Yes! It seems that those on permanent profile are equated with those scoring less than 300 on their APFT. And that is being less of a Soldier or leader.

I find that unfortunately too many people have been abusing the system for a long time. And now that the wars are winding down, the people who have been ignoring their injuries for deployment after deployment, are actually getting the help they need only to find out there is a stigma waiting for them. Most of us have a hard time accepting not being the 19 versions of ourselves.

I haven't noticed this so much in my unit, because I do present myself as a person who's able to perform his job, and perform it well. My permanent profile doesn't seem to have an adverse effect on my abilities, and the majority of seniors respect my limitations, and still recognize me as among the best.
