Are officers of organized state militia's entitled to a salute by regular military?

CW3 Private RallyPoint Member Big deal, Salute them. Most of the state militia personnel wear service ribbons and badges that are impressive.

At a recent service at Riverside Nat’l, the presiding Chaplain, wearing Captain’s bars and CA State Militia brass was also wearing: CIB and Master Parachutist’s badges. (June 6, 2019).

Salute rendered! Would you have a problem with SGM Salvatore Rangel still desiring to serve or would you not respect his State appointment?

Recognized State Militia have the same legal authority as those in their State National Guard. Their Officers NCOs and Soldiers are often ex-military or retired military. The legal difference is the federal government cannot activate them or order them out of their home state.
That being said many do attend military schools, courses, classes with the NG/USAR/RA facilities and posts located within their states. The money comes from the state in which they reside rather than federal funds.
Another thing that most don't realize is any county or group of counties within a state or territory of the United States can organize, arm and field a militia. Look to Teddy Roosevelt as one example and the Territory of the Philippines prior to WWII as another.

AR 600-25, ch. 1-5, b. “All Army personnel in uniform are required to salute when they meet and recognize persons entitled to the salute. Salutes will be exchanged between officers (commissioned and warrant) and enlisted personnel, and with personnel of the Armed Forces of the United States (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard), the commissioned corps of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and the commissioned corps of the Public Health Service entitled to the salute.”

Organized state militias don’t appear to be on the list.

I'd actually wanted to go into the NY Guard (NYG), the state defense force (SDF) in NY, before my total perm disability...honestly, I would, if only to just be polite...plus, a good many of their guys, I'd been told were retired active duty, given at least commensurate rank when they joined the NYG, honest, so yeah, I would, most definitely...I mean, honestly, why quibble over trivial minutiae in the interest of mere courtesy, ya know? Same for CAP, USCG Aux, Navy Sea Cadet adult supervisory staff, all such groups, I mean, seriously, it's just plain and simple good form, to my turn of mind, at any rate, ya know?

Out of courtesy one could dilute but is not required to do so. State militias are not recognized by the Federal government as part of the US forces. Thank you for your service.

Out of respect? Yes. Out of requirement? No.
State militias are not affiliated with the military in any way other than the fact that some members might have served. As such they are not actual military but may be organized along military lines ie Captain in charge of a Unit, Sergeants on down to privates etc.

No, for the regulation cited.
I also figure it would be very unlikely that many Soldiers would run into many state militia officers.
Yet, my hand would likely render a salute based when I recognize the rank out of reflex and/or the thought "when in doubt..."

My father was a WW2 veteran and retired LTC, Infantry, USA. He was a very good and experience instructor. Many years after he retired he was recruited by the USCG Aux. to be an instructor, a position into which in dove in all the way (as he did everything). I tagged along on some of his USCG Aux. functions. On some of those functions there were members of the California State Militia (which also tried to recruit my father). I learned that in the USGC Aux. and in the Cal. State Militia, there are many veterans, retired colonels, retired boatswains mates, veterans who didn't retire, anything you can think of. They were men who served once and wanted to serve again in some capacity. So, before you judge a member of the Civil Air Patrol, USCGA, State Militia, or any other military or naval or para-military service, you might want to get to know the men and women who are serving in that service. First, they are serving in a way that fits for them. Second, they may have served before and your salute is honoring that service as well.

There are 2 Militias, organized and unorganized. Organized Militias are controlled by a state under the national guard military department. Unorganized Militia are not conduned by the states. Most are idiots that pose as so called prepper warriors. Organized Militias are known as State Guards. They are basically as auxiliary force only used for emergency situation such as hurricane support. State Guards do salute NG Officers if working with them. It is just courtesy not required. I spent 10 years with the SCSG focused on search and recovery. We sent people to both New York 911 and New Orleans a year after the flood and found a dozen bodies using cadaver dogs.
