Are men truly insulted when a women is picked for higher positions or office over them?

Are they qualified? That's what I always look at. Whatever happened to picking someone who is qualified for the job rather than the color or gender of the person. Just my thoughts though.

Am I surprised that the president would view the selection of a woman as an insult to men? No. I'm not.

Folks get resentful if they feel a person is selected who didn't merit the elevated role they were selected for and were instead chosen for reasons apart from merit (this is especially true on a personal level). Mix in one's political persuasion and a willingness to conflate others' opinions about who a candidate is as opposed to what they are, and the picture about what Group A "feels" about Candidate B gets muddled quickly.

On a macro-level I'm not sold on the idea that a plurality of men are "insulted" solely by a woman chosen as a running mate. Were men insulted by John McCain's running mate being a woman only because she was a woman? And what of Water Mondale's? Conversely, had Biden not selected a woman, would a plurality of any particular group been slighted then?
