AR 600-25 States you will only salute indoors when reporting to a superior officer. Where is it written I salute in front of a board?

During mock boards I have been hammered when they ask "when to salute indoors?". "Well why did you salute just now?!" I cannot find an answer in writing. I KNOW that this is what we do, boards, commander, indoor ceremonies, etc. However I cannot find any documentation in regulation showing that this is correct and it is driving me crazy. Asking for help locally has not produced results.

My take...
1. Go to your service regulations regarding saluting, military courtesies, and ceremonies. These usually yield results.
2. Find a SAMC member and ask them.

When you report, you are reporting to the President (Commander) of the board. The President is usually a senior NCO acting on behalf of the unit commander as his representative. So when you report, you are saluting the commander via his representative.

Son, I'm gonna give you some advice I learned the hard way. When it comes to petty grievances such as this one, you need to know when to pick and choose your battles. It literally takes less than 5 seconds of your board time. The army is at point where promotions are getting harder and harder to attain; are you willing to piss it away over some nonsense like this?

SPC keep doing what you're doing seeking for the correct way to do things in the military based on the regulations we all must follow and don't let anybody discourage you from doing so. You see alot of us and notice I include myself like to use what is called "The Five Monkey Rule" meaning that just because thats how it's been done before, we just pick up where our old leaders left off and continue doing the same without even ask our selfs or takng the time to reaserch the way you are doing right now if what we're doing is right. If you have a problem saluting board members while attending a board your ass should not be NCO first of all, or you should not be going to a board, who cares if it is in the reg or not, Its' been done for ever through the passing of the torch . New subject.

It is the board's rules. That should be enough "documentation". I see no problem with it.

Couldn't tell you Army regs, but for Marines, it's simple: You don't salute when uncovered, and you don't wear a cover indoors unless under arms.
