So my nephew is 16, on the wrong side of the law and my sister has pretty much FUBARed him as far as discipline and respect goes. He needs a wake up call and fast. So I'm trying to help him out. Need to find a good traditional military academy that won't break the bank to send him to in, or close to, Idaho.

Some times, military academies may not be the correct answer.

Here is a link to an alternate idea:

But, if you do want to look at military academies in Idaho:

Those don't always work...just fyi.

Honestly how much do you know what goes on in their home when you aren't likely there? How is the blame solely on your sister? Where's the dad? Did you ever offer any help if you knew things were going wrong? Or anyone talked to the kid to find out why he's doing the things he's doing?

I have a nephew that is troubled; does anyone have information for youth military academies that are not overly expensive?

Outward Bound offers a course for troubled teens called Intercept that has the reputation of getting good results for troubled teens. It isn't cheap, I don't know if they offer scholarships, but neither is a military school.

Thank you Sir. I appreciate all the info I can get. He is currently in juvenile detention but we are looking at the next steps after he is released.

The NCArNG has programs for troubled youth. You might check with IDArNG.
