He grew up in Dodge City, KS, where he became a competitive swimmer and set a record in the freestyle. This brought notice of the US Navy who recruited and sent him to Fort Pierce, FL where he trained. On D-Day, he placed charges to clear obstacles at Normandy Beach. He was injured when the charges detonated early and his memory is full of holes. He has no records of photos from his childhood or his service. I'm trying to help him put some together for a presentation that he and two other WWII vets are making at a local high school. I also have friends and relatives that live in that area.

I would suggest that you start with the Ford County Historical Society Dodge City Kansas. Their web page is - http://www.kansashistory.us/fordco/
Then I would also check with the local newspaper, the Dodge City Daily Globe - http://www.dodgeglobe.com/
That is about the best I can suggest on short notice.
