However, AFBs are always nicer than Fort Whatever. Great location. Yes you deal with snow but the area is nice. There's lots to do in the area; if you like outdoor stuff, then you'll enjoy it. The inversion sucks, mostly in the winter, but it's hard to beat the mountain view! Ogden is in a nice area just north of Salt Lake City, right on the edge of the mountain range. It's close enough to the major city so that you have all of those advantages (shopping, night life, cuisine, etc.), but far enough away to have a different and unique small-town vibe. You're also very close to a number of ski resorts and national/state parks, in case you like outdoor activities. The people there treated me very nice, so I have nothing but positive things to say about it. LTC Kevin B. Yes there are some good areas (i.e Clearfield, Layton, Roy) and some bad areas (West Ogden, North Ogden) but overall the areas to avoid kinda speak for them selves the canyons nearby provide excellent outdoor recreation less than an hour from base area, some amenities are availiable to all park area. Pine view offers, jetski rentals, sail rentals, some boat rentals for reasonable rates, Willard Bay offers some rentals as well, river fishing can be found at very close and easily accessible for trout, and catfish.
South Ogden Canyon is about a 45 min drive that wraps around and meets up with I80 to either Wyoming or back around to Park City and Salt lake, Skiing at Park City/Deer Valley. Or if your just looking for scenic mountain drive which i do on a regular basis SP5 Michael Simpson Sun, 20 Nov 2016 22:25:17 -0500 2016-11-20T22:25:17-05:00 Response by SMSgt Kent Brown made Mar 1 at 2020 8:21 PM https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/anyone-have-any-thoughts-about-hill-afb-and-ogden-ut?n=5618341&urlhash=5618341

I grew up on Ogden. My dad retired from the rail shops on HAFB and I retired twice from HAFB, once from the Fire House and once from the AF. I live about 280 miles south now but I still miss the area amd all there is to there. You are close enough to everything and far enough away at the same time.
