Any updates on DoD directive 5210.56?

It came out a few years ago and it appeared that military personnel were going to be permitted to carry a personal firearm on post. Then news on it went silent? Here is an article about it and some of its details:

In the AF, it’s a local base decision. At my base, folks that are certified can carry.

My understanding is O5s can authorize troops to be armed.

While I would love to carry on base, and I fully support the intent I also don't want to get shot on the bowl by snuffy who is fiddling with his sidearm as he pulls up his pants in the next stall. It will make UCMJ action on the commanders carpet interesting though :)

I heard that installation commanders would have the say on who is armed. I got my concealed weapons permit last week in preparation. I also heard that it would probably only be like MPs and 1801s that will be allowed. I’m hoping they include federal special agents so the CI guys can carry too.
