Holy Crap Man. Cost of living is a bit pricey but what wonderful place to continue your professional adventures. Try checking out the Navy Shipyard, PSNS, Bremerton, WA. My son tells me they are hiring and have several ships set up for overhaul and reduced availability periods (Navy Speak for Dry Dock).

The Seattle City Council passed a minimum wage hike which will chase service work away. That said, PSNS is now hiring two for every retiree as they're going through a mass exit. Don't know if education is in your mix but the shipyard supports continuing education through the local Olympic College. They even have a full 4 year degree in Mechanical Engineering (diploma from WSU). Oh, if you're going to work at PSNS, public transportation is recommended (they also have worker busses) as parking got overloaded in the late 1800s.

I think it might be helpful to define the field of work you would like to enter and what sort of back ground you have other than serving 9 years in the Marines. I've said this in other posts, while people appreciate your service, that will only carry you so far. So there is really only so much direction we can provide you without knowing more about you.

Sgt Brandon Rice : I will be moving to Seattle end of this year. If you are looking for technical work, I may be able to introduce you around. Having been said, the only jobs which pay a "live-able" wage around Seattle are medical/technical. If you are in school, take advantage of the opportunities, learn a skill which employers demand.

There are so many questions here. The first one is: Have you found one yet?

If not then,
1. What kind of experience, skills, certifications, etc do you have? There are so many jobs to dig into depending on what you have done before (while serving or not) that may make you qualified for a number of positions.
2. How do you define "good pay"? Working the drive thru at Wendy's may not get you good pay depending on what you are looking for. I understand Seattle has a solid minimum wage but the cost of living is high as well. You shouldn't expect to have a $100K/year out of the gate but you should be able to get a living wage but that depends on the job, industry, etc.
3. Have you started your job search yet? If you don't start looking you'll never know what's out there so I suggest you get your research in to find the job you would like and then find 5 more that are like it because odds are you won't get your best option so broaden your scope. Go to sites like GlassDoor.com to look up the companies that are in Seattle and if there is much feedback on working there, etc.

That's just to start. However if you're not finding what you're looking for in Seattle look around the area and see what else is out there.

Use helmet to hardhats most apprenticeship programs are VA certified so u can use your post 9-11 gi bill and get bah while working
