Any job you wanted, what would it be?

Getting close to ETS time, and thinking I may want a career change for the civilian side. I will be doing some guard or reserve time, giving me a perfect opportunity to select a new MOS (open to all branches).

If you could reclass to any job, to benefit you in the civilian world, what would it be?

Oh wait, you mean to actually benefit in the civilian world...
Anything in Cyber branch, either of the boat MOS', allied trade, plumber, electrician, CA, PSYOP, helicopter mechanics (powerplant)....

Great Question SSG Private RallyPoint Member might I suggest MILTEC if you are going into the Reserves/NG. I am a SAA on the civilian side (S1) and 88N/25B on the Military side. It's kind of the best of both worlds in my eyes anyways. Also allows you time to go to school if you want and well I love being Mr. Borders because he don't give two "you know what's" lol

If it is something you are interested in I would recommend IT.

I started out as a Machinegunner and lat moved to Comm after leaving Embassy Duty. It gave me some great training and led me to my civilian job when I got out.

Find something you are interested in doing and that has growth potential. Even better if it requires a clearance on the outside. That too is worth money.

Your profile doesn't tell us if you have civilian education or experience that might indicate alternate interests or capabilities. The obvious civilian choice would be EMT. You might take a slightly different path and go for Physician's Assistant. That requires a Bachelors Degree and specialized training in most states. Another closely related field is medical administration. Again a degree is a good idea, perhaps in business or medical administration.

Are you good at convincing other people to go along with your ideas? Drug company representative might take advantage of your medical background. Other sales fields might work including insurance, specifically corporate medical insurance.

If you liked your headquarters job and don't mind doing paperwork, then paralegal could work for you. You get to help people needing legal assistance. You could specialize in medical liability law.

There are interest surveys you can take that may help you decide on your course after completing your current service commitment. They might be available trough the transition office or behavioral health services. I took one called the Strong Interest Inventory. It's available on line.

I really dislike working for someone else. Everything I do now started as a hobby, became a side hustle, then a significant (but not necessarily awe-inspiring) revenue stream.

Every job has some aspect that sucks, but if overall you like what you do, you will probably be happy in life.

If the money is great, but the job kills your soul, you will never make enough money to be happy.

68A biomed repair is a profitable mos with soldiers earning up to 6 figures and has warrant officer option

68C will help you get a decetly paying job in an industry that consistently needs new blood. Also it gives you a big leg up to getting your RN and commission option.

25B or Intel are also profitable options

I agree with others, IF you truly can pick any type of job, find something you really would enjoy so work is less work and more fun.

I’ve had many careers during my life, pursuing fun interesting yet challenging jobs from the war fighting side in the military to the medical side in the military. I was lucky to find a couple jobs I really enjoyed which made some job decisions difficult; such as FAA air traffic controller and controlling aircraft in the Navy. I enjoyed hanging out with good ole Seabees with a tour in recruiting ( wouldn’t recommend recruiting as a permanent job as life starts over each month ). There are many more job detours along the way as international sales manager, plant production manager, restaurant manager, etc....but the surprise of my life was being a physical therapist. I finally found what made me the happiest with a challenging career helping patients recover from whatever. I never in a million years considered medicine and it was a long road to travel before getting my license and commission which afforded a new career path.

I say all this to simply say; life’s a journey with many tempting roadways begging you to traverse...find the road that speaks to you and your career/job will be fun and fulfilling. I wish you all the best!!

I think I am going to look into the Intel world a bit with it, potentially the Cyber world. Intel (CI) really interests me, I think it would be a great fit!
