Another one for the G6/S6 types - encrypted emails on BlackBerry

I know you can install the S/MIME addon in Outlook Web Access to be able to encrypt and read encrypted emails in OWA. However, is there a way to do this for a BlackBerry government phone?
On a side note...and don't laugh...but if you wanted to buy your own BlackBerry, could you essentially turn it over to the government to have them program to have your own BlackBerry rather than an issued one? Even if you had to turn it over to the government as gov property once you were done with it?

Ok, I don't know about the Blackberry encryption thing for sure. I THINK you can get an card reader that works with the Blackberry and then you can read the encrypted email.
As for bringing your own Blackberry, I am 95% certain that no post NEC is going to let you do that. Someone on post holds the contracts for the Blackberrys and they would have to add that Blackberry into their contract, which requires the transfer of the number and IMEI to the contract-holder's account. That's a pretty big PIA and I doubt anyone is going to do it. What's the reasoning for wanting to do it?
Source: I've been a Corps TCO involved in those contracts.

No good reason sir other than I enjoy having a blackberry but they don't have that for 1SG here in my unit. I find it very convenient.
As for the encryption I'm trying to find a way to do it without an external CAC reader. This is my main concern. Trying to help out my BC.

Ah, got it. In that case, the answer is going to be (most likely) "no." Here's why:
1. There is a limit on the number of wireless devices due to budgets.
2. You can't pay for it yourself - because it wouldn't be within the higher unit's contract.
3. So, if your phone can't be on the higher unit contract, it's not going to be part of the Army system and the NEC isn't going to let it on the network.
4. Sorry.
For your encryption issue, take a look at this:
