His appeal is set to go before a judge on November 18th.

Akbar was responsible for the Soldier-on-Solider attack that occurred March 22 - 23, 2003. He threw several grenades into the tents housing COL Hodges and CSM Womack as well as the rest of the BCT Command team. During the attack, Air Force Maj Gregory L Stone and Army CPT Chris Seifert was killed. Maj Stone died from injuries from one of the grenades and CPT Seifert died from the 3 shots to his back that were discharged from Akbar's rifle.

The one thing I will never forget is how dark it was that night. As most of you remember, you could always see stars in the sky but for some reason, that night was really dark. The air felt different. We were 1 day out from deploying and getting ready to invade Iraq; the last thing we were expecting was an attack from within from someone that wore the same uniform.

I know I'm not really asking a question with this discussion but I think it's important to remember that Soldier-on-Soldier attacks are nothing new. Things like what we saw earlier this week in VA are nothing new. The thing that set Akbar's actions apart from other shootings is this was the first such attack in a combat zone that resulted in the death of US Service members specifically targeted by the attacker.

Posted in Memory of CPT Christopher Seifert KIA 22 March 2003. Akbar is a terrorist and should be treated accordingly, including ripping off that uniform -- he's a disgrace to the US Army and the American people.Response by SPC Mark Mueller made Nov 19 at 2014 1:36 PM2014-11-19T13:36:28-05:002014-11-19T13:36:28-05:00SCPO Private RallyPoint Member333861

Did the appeal happens as planned yesterday? I hope for the sake and sanity of this country that his appeal was denied and he sits awaiting his sentence, though no one has been executed since April of 1961, with 6 servicemen currently on death row. I also feel that it will not happen due to needing approval from the president for the sentence to be carried out. I do not see why it is so much different from the civilian world if the crimes are more heinous than most non-military crimes, as well as being IN a combat zone. Alas, this same situation will probably be played out again with Nidal Hassan since he will be the next high profile case to be heard on this issue.Response by SCPO Private RallyPoint Member made Nov 19 at 2014 1:39 PM2014-11-19T13:39:10-05:002014-11-19T13:39:10-05:00SFC Mark Merino334113

There truly is pure evil in this world.Response by SFC Mark Merino made Nov 19 at 2014 3:32 PM2014-11-19T15:32:04-05:002014-11-19T15:32:04-05:002014-08-28T09:44:53-04:00
