I agree with 1LT Annala.

I started a staffing agency to help my fellow Veterans find employment in the IT fields, I have done it for 2 years now but honestly it has been a very rough startup. I am currently considering other options as finding more funding is always a tough road.

I think another factor in this question is where do you want to live. If you want to live in the DC area I would say a Govt or Contractor job is the best bet, but if you want to live in Orlando, FL it would be very different.

What are your goals/objectives?

CPO Locke, that's a question that only you can answer. Obviously it will be based on your training, experience and personal goals - all of which may or may not be greatly tempered by the availability of employment in your chosen field and location.

Within what is seen in today's "corporate climate," that choice could go either way. Budget conscious corporate staff in the government AND private sector are EXTREMELY agressive at deeming whatever division/unit as being exorbitant and, as Maj. Dunn put it, makes funding, in all aspects, tough to have infrastructure set up for staffing increase of veterans who are or aren't retired from military service. This is also applicable to people, as in myself, with multiple levels of military, peace officer, and civilian/private sector service.

For me working for myself is my goal. I'd like to own a restaurant/bar when I retire. Use the skills I learned from the military and find some new tricks when I go back to school and hopefully use it all correctly to have a strong business.

Good luck on finding your calling when you retire.

Well, if you are over 50 you can forget working, at least in any meaningful job. If you feel the need to work about the best you can do is greeter at Wal-Mart.
