There have been many a song penned by many a writer. I cannot listen to Our National Anthem without a silent tear escaping. I mostly listen to country, but "Silver Wings" has always been among my favorites, RIP Merle: you gave us all you had. Johnny Cash "This Ragged Flag" speaks for itself. Who hasn't heard "Green Berets" and been moved? Newer is David Ball's "Private Malone."There are plenty more but at the moment I have a bit of brain fog so I am asking you. Any decade, any genre. If you have a reason, include it. Some days I just want to get lost in the music. Music Heals.

I've always had a thing for Bagpipes, Had a Bubblehead (Submariner) that when he was home in port would march around the Softball field at COMSUBPAC playing his Bagpipe. Neat to wake up to,

Hi, Major Patterson.

Everything comes to a dead stop during Taps or the Star-Spangled Banner.

When I was at MEPS, the jukebox in the hotel bar was playing Dreams by Van Halen. That always had a special place in my heart.

Born in the USA has done me in ever since it was played over & over before the outbrief for an ORI which our SAC wing had performed exceptionally well in. Can't help but get nostalgic whenever I hear it now.

Well, I may get chastised for saying this, but I've never gotten openly emotional over our National Anthem. Singing God Bless America in a spontaneous gathering of everyday citizens on some city street corner sure has. But Taps has always done it for me. I've served in scores upon scores of Honor Guards at military, fire, and police funerals. I've presented the folded U.S. Flag to surviving widows or children, and that one sentence phrase I recite as I do just grabs me by the throat. It's always been a proud, but tough honor to perform deadpan.

Thank you for performing the tremendous honor for the families of the fallen. My dad gave 32 years and he was pretty tight lipped about the atrocities he'd experienced. For his funeral, he got a tape recorder of "Taps." My aunt was a commissioned nurse in the Pacific in WWII and received nothing when she passed last year.
