Very different units with very different missions. Connect with folks in those organizations and learn more about what your life would be like there... choose whichever sounds more appealing to you and apply for that pipeline...

https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/special-forces-or-ranger

Special Forces or Ranger? | RallyPoint

I am interested in the SOF community and plan on pursuing that path, but I was just curious about people's opinions on each route. If you want to kick down doors and shoot people in the face, then go to Ranger Regiment, if you can pass. RIP was the hardest school or selection that I ever attended. Much harder than SFAS or Ranger School. Go SF because you believe in the mission and want to become a warrior diplomat. If you don't want that, you're not a good fit. Not a bad thing if that's the case. Just the reality of the mission and mindset. By Army doctrine they both have completely separate missions even though SF like to do Direct Action (DA) more these days.

Rangers: Surgical Strikes. They have a specific missions such as airfield seizes, like the Deuce, raids and HVT kill/capture.

Special Forces: There is one unit in the whole of DoD is charged with the mission of training foreign forces and that is SF. This is long and hard work but if you want to work
with other nations building their armies than this would be a better route.

Again the decision will be yours and I hope this insight helps. I may be a bit biased, but I firmly believe that the 75th is the perfect starting point for soldiers wanting to get into an SOF career. Battalion is where you will learn everything you need to know to be an elite soldier. From there, you can transfer those skills to SF where they will be fine-tuned. Battalion will give you the experience and training that will help you succeed in SF (if you don't decide to stay in battalion, that is!). Get your wings, get your scroll, get your tab, and you'll have your pick of how and where you want to end your career.

Good luck!

RLTW!
