I would think installing and maintaining either an Arch Linux or a Gentoo Linux install in of itself might give you the usage of the CLI you are after.

Arch Linux taught me so many things about just using linux on so many differentl levels.

I went with i3 as my window manager and tmux on the CLI. Learned so many different things from config files, automation of certain tasks, and usage of usb, and etc.
