A friend is about to commission. His goal is to eventually join the Special Forces. What branch should he pursue? CA, MI, SC?

Infantry would probably be the best. If not that then one of the other combat arms MOSs. He has to remember that SF really only does small unit stuff so he needs to concentrate on small unit tactics and being a small unit leader.

Does he want to eventually branch SF or just work with them? What is his source of commissioning? As you might know you can't directly branch neither CA nor SF, so he would have to wait to be a CPT or CPT (P), then attend either of their respective course.

A recent commissioned 2ndLT at my school went SC and got sent with SF.

Is he reserves? If he's active, he can't pursue the CA route until he's either a 1LT promotable or CPT.
