If you were asked by a news station to explain what "sacrifice" means to a military service member, what would you say?

MSG (Join to see) Great discussion question. For everyone on RP "Sacrifice" could mean many different things. For those of us that deployed it could mean the loss of a friend or comrade, it could be the time spent away from home, family, love ones, children, missed birthdays, missed births, death of a family member, missed school events. I believe the list could on and on. For those who have served this country in combat or not, it is the sacrifice they made with their families to be on call 24/7 in defense of our nation and what it stands for. Sacrifice can be many things to many different people and individuals. If you have served your country for whatever reason, a job, income, education, patriot, or because you didn't have an option (back in the old days join or go to jail option) then you have sacrificed for your country! That is my opinion

I do not see it as a Sacrifice. I see it as duty and honor. I see it as serving my country. I don't feel like I gave anything up to serve nor do I feel like I sacrificed myself.... I served because my father did and I learned while growing up on AF bases that you should not be self serving....that you should always be giving and NEVER expect anything back..NO MATTER WHAT COLOR THE OTHER PERSON IS...becaue COLOR doesn't matter and should never play a role......and not to think about helping others...twice...just do it....because it's the right thing to do...... I feel that iif someone thinks that serving your country is a "sacrifice" then they are not truly honorable. This is what I would say to the reporter.

I would say it means something different for everyone, but we all sacrifice specific things when we put on the uniform. Our families do as well. And for some of our brothers & sisters, it's the ultimate sacrifice.
