The Issue
*22 Veteran Suicides a day (Dept. of Veterans Affairs 2013)
*2013 Unemployment rate among Gulf War II Veterans is 44% higher than the national average, with 1 in 5 veterans being unable to find work (Bureau of Labor Statistics)
*900,000 to 1.5 million veterans live on SNAP benefits (Center on Budget & Policy 2013 report based of American Community Survey data)
*89% of veterans name ‘finding a job’ their greatest challenge and list key barriers as lack of schedule flexibility to accommodate service related health issues, cultural differences between military and civilian life, and lack of employer based veteran support programs; Veteran’s Employment Challenges; Prudential Financial Services, Inc in conjunction with the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America, 2013
The Solution:
Our plan is to establish veteran families with their own aquaponics farming facility and put them through all the training necessary to be self-sufficient. With our turnkey greenhouse and aquaponics system, along with our 8 week immersion training, the veterans who follow the daily operations plan will net between $60K and $120K within the first year, giving veterans the self-sufficiency they need to feed their families and thrive as active productive members of society.
Applications are flying into Liberty Farms from veterans across the country, all wanting to be a part of this ground breaking program to lift our soldiers out of poverty. But we need your help in making these veteran dreams come true.
