The Army and the Department of Defense has been down sizing over the last five years or so. Will we reach retention numbers so low that we will not be able to deploy to the next big war or sacrifice the defense of the US to fight a war on foreign soil. Should we down size that much will we have to open the doors to all possible recruits?

I cannot wait to an administration gets in there that supports the military and who doesn't compromise our security.

I think it's interesting how certain politicians want to "downsize, and cut military funding"  Yet those very same politicians always take advantage of the military escorts/security details/helo and plane rides at the tax payers expense!

A good point.   And one of the most disconcerting is the rule-bending for the sake of being politically correct.  Abuse is always wrong and should be severely sanctioned but this is a military and not something to be toyed with.

Wonderful Memory but if you want to be a Fiscal Conservative you can't be making a 600 Ship Navy. I was part of that Big Stick but it wasn't necessary then and isn't now. Towards the end of my career. I was able to get the low down skinny on a lot of the Soviet Boogey men that I had to deal with earlier in my career and although we did a lot of smoke and mirrors with their more open society I came to find out that there was virtually no "Meat" in that Patty, The Majority of the Missile tubes on all their floating platforms were empty, just for show.

PO1   There was some of masquerading and sabre rattling from the Soviet Bloc but they did have at one time during the 1980s 50,000 nuclear warheads.

My cousin worked with the Titan IIs in Arkansas and I believe Michigan and they were real enough.   The one great thing was showing that stock-piling nukes makes the word a disaster waiting to happen.

But we must always be prepared because the cat is out of the bag and to put this into perspective was the 9 MONTH old baby that was charged with attempted murder in Pakistan.   By the way,  they have nukes.

I will hinder a little (so to speak)  Remember we were smaller before Iraq and Afghanistan.  It was through a request to congress to increase the end strength of both the active Army and the Marines.  The National Guard and reserves filled in the gaps and continued to be used during the draw up.  It will suck but we will succeed.
