I read this article earlier today and found it interesting. What do you do to maintain/improve your situational awareness?

I've decided to stay in "condition white" as the article calls it. I used to pretty much be perpetually at "condition orange", unfortunately I can't seem to stay in yellow, I either have to drop down or amp up and given that my life isn't generally in danger, I go for white

1SG Steven Stankovich, too safe too long, no crime in my world; grown complacent. When I returned from deployment to Homestead AFB I lived in condition yellow and felt naked without the comfortable weight of a sidearm on my hip, although I had one in the car and in the home. There was crime all around me and there were shootings in the parking lot in front of my apartment; we were not allowed to be armed on base in those days.
But that was a long time ago. With the passage of decades and prolonged security in my current world I have lost the edge. But I still carry guns in the truck and in my home out of habit long after the need has passed.

You are correct sir, the need never passes. There will always be bad people in this world who intend to do bad things to good people. If good people sit idly by, then the bad guys win.
