I was trained to push the larger fighter to the ground and to smother the one still standing taking him/her out of action until they cooled off.

CSM Charles Hayden Brother my physical stature can be intimidating. So, when needed, I used it. I can also have an intimidating voice when need be. If by using those two things did not work, I would just let them beat the shit out of each other until one quit and then break it up. Try stepping into a fight and you are going to get hit.

When you step in, you best be prepared to the taste smacked out your mouth!

If yelling does not work to stop the fight, get the CQ Runner and physically separate those fighting.....once apart, separate them further into different parts of the team room.....too often leaders go straight to the phone and call the MPs, you can get most fights under control without the MPs......

I was an 11B E5 and had this happen a few times - the good old command voice worked well. I'd think twice about getting into the mix as you could make it worse - suppose you're an NCO and you try to intervene and take a few punches? Then what? The SM in question is gonna have additional problems to resolve. Now, granted, if he doesn't have the self control to not resort to punches, perhaps he doesn't need to be there...

Had this very thing happen with two knuckleheads the night before I ETSd at Fort Campbell. Two screwballs fighting out in the quad - I thought about ignoring it, but one of 'em was getting clobbered. Came out and used my drill sgt voice, which was something considering I was never a drill sgt...!
