Isis's war on democracy: Militants execute 300 civil servants from Iraqi electoral commission
The Isis militant group has reportedly executed more than 300 civil servants from the Iraqi electoral commission, as part of a crackdown on those accused of promoting democracy and “ideas that distorted Islam”.
An Iraqi security official told Spain's EFE news agency that the executions were carried out by firing squad on Saturday in the militant group’s stronghold of Mosul.
Mahmoud al-Sauaryih, a spokesman for the National Multitude militia in Nineveh province, said that those killed included 50 women.
In a statement, the national office of the Iraqi Supreme Electoral Commission reportedly said that a separate group of its employees were murdered with knives in Mosul. It called on the international community to “intervene immediately to stop the massacre and crimes against the Iraqi people”.

EDITORIAL COMMENT:- Al-Qa'eda ran into the same problem. At first it had the support of the people because it was protecting the people against the harsh and arbitrary actions of those who murdered for religious reasons (which were condoned because they had the support of the US government) - then its actions got to be worse than the harsh and arbitrary actions of those who murdered for religious reasons (which were condoned because they had the support of the US government). At that point it lost support and got its butt kicked. It will happen again. The only real question is whether the harsh and arbitrary action of those who murdered for religious reasons will be repeated (and condoned because they have the support of the US government).
Remember, there are "Good Terrorists" and "Bad Terrorists" - it all depends on whether they actively and publicly attack Americans. We won't go into what Pakistan is.

It is very possible I knew some of these IEC people. I worked with them quite a bit when I was in Mosul in 2005.
These barbarians will only be defeated when the locals decide enough is enough and rise up against them. Just like last time. When they do, they will need outside assistance. Until they do, we give them an excuse for their inaction by making grandiose statements about "destroying ISIS" and delivering mere pinpricks.
My opinion is that this will need to play out quite a bit before the time will be right to make a move.

COL., I'm starting to cop an attitude that if you are not willing to fight to defend your country, you deserve what you get. I don't see anyone cutting and running somewhere else in the USA when things get tough.

On the other hand, if you don't have the ability to effectively fight for your country and you know that your options are death or flight, it really doesn't make much sense to pick death over flight.
On a societal level "It is better to die on your feet then live on your knees." is NOT a "Good Thing" while "It is better to run away and live to fight another day." is.

You have to wonder, if we had anything like ISIS in the United States, what the general population would do. "Give me liberty or give me death." seems to be passe' anymore.
