How does a voluntary reclass work with the DA Form 4187 process? Is it electronically signed or does it have to be a signed hardcopy?

A 4187 will be processed through a Personnel Action Requests (PARs) on IPPS-A now - no more emailing digital forms for electronic signatures or signatures on hard copies (unless there are unusual circumstances).

I have not heard of this simply being an option. If you want to change your MOS you will have to re-enlist. Your control my be overstrength right now but that may not be the case in a couple years when they NCOs. The first thing you would have to do is even check if your control branch would release you. I don't suspect they would.

I've never heard of using a 4187 for reclass, I am pretty sure that you cannot use a 4187 for reclass, (unless something changed), I used a 4187 for a temporary position in the Army Recovery Care Program as a Cadre (then WTU). I used to be a 91B, when my window opened for re-enlistment, my MOS was also over strength, during that time I was able to coordinate with my Retention NCO helped look for other MOS' that I qualified, it's was a really difficult time, I was deployed, my family in Germany, I was not ready to leave the Army and was not financially stable. The MOS shortage/balanced changed a lot during that process, at the end the only one that opened was 92G (Food Service), I re-classed for that, but then on my first duty station as a cook only lasted 2 weeks at the DFAC, my unit was short on mechanics and getting ready for another deployment and moved me back to the motor pool, worked there for 3 years until my PCS, but all that movement affected me greatly on my NCOER's and on my career, my new unit couldn't comprehend, then you have the MOS prejudice on combats units and also within your own branch, then my Quartermaster Branch never recognized all my hard work, little by little took a toll on me, got frustrated and that's how I ended up at the Army Recovery Care Program as a Cadre. My advice to you, find your Retention NCO as do your homework, don't rush things, but be precise making that decision. I left the Army a few years ago, I know a lot have changed, but find something you like to do and not something other person want you to do, please don't take me wrong, I love cooking, that's why I picked 92G, always loved feeding the Warriors, specially during field training exercises, it's kind of funny that on garrison Warriors complained about the food, but in the field couldn't wait for mermites and coffee to arrive to their site, overall got to know a lot of great people.
