It's time to make 1SG and SGM/CSM rank color coded like LTC's and MAJ's.

I have 20/10 vision, but for the life of me when I see either a 1SG or SGM approaching me, I cannot tell which one they are until they are 1 step from passing me. When I go to give the greeting of the day, I get it wrong at least 50% of the time. As a default I say good morning SGM just to be safe. That way I dont call a SGM a 1SG and I may flatter a 1SG by mistaking him for a SGM. Let just make the 1SG rank gold and the CSM rank subdued and end this problem before someone gets hurt!

You want the Ear Pro back?? I hated that little green box with a passion. I lost more than one, and had to catch an earfull untill I could get back to my room and replace it. Basic training it was good, you could tell what PVTs belonged to what company at a glance. I hated it in Germany the first time tho.

I loved the ear pro case. When certain people would walk up to me, I'd start opening it. They got the point.

Rank on the sleeve could work....unless you're in the 1st Cav. Then your rank would be on your elbow or your unit patch would be on your neck. And no, changing the Cav patch is not an option. I, and many others like me, love that obnoxiously large identifier.

As someone whose vision is starting to slip, I believe we should go to 6" * 6" rank insignia....
I personally can't distinguish a SGM from as CSM until I am about arm's length away.
Or... I could always get glasses. Nah.... bigger rank.

I remember I got smoked as a cadet once at Adv Camp when I called a CSM "sergeant" (thinking he was a MSG). It was back in the BDU days and he was wearing pin-on rank and I couldn't see the star in the middle of his chevrons. Yeah, that wasn't fun.... ;)

This seems to be the case in the Marines also.......

This occurrence is pretty common in my life. I refer to it as “The Stare,” I’m sure you’re all familiar with it. As a lower enlisted, we are obligated to “greet” Staff NCO’s and officers as they appro...

Probably why it's a good thing that Army calls all NCO's (except 1SG and SGM/CSM) "sargent".
