Looking for information. I should be pinning SFC by the end of the year, and I am curious if ill be eligible to recieve a SRB ( Selective Retention Bonus )? I currently have about 28 months remaining on my current contract, so I will not have the 3 year service remaining requirement. I am not eligible to re-enlist indefinite as i will still be under 10 years TIS. So can i re-enlist for the 60+ month option and recieve an SRB?

The easiest answer is ... it depends. The SRBs change and what's in place now is not necessarily what is going to be in place when you reenlist.

You can see what SRBs the Army is currently offering by reading the latest MILPER message* on it. Assuming you're a 13M (based on your profile), there IS a current SRB offered. Will it be there when you go to reenlist? Maybe, maybe not.

Looking back a 6-7 years, it wasn't being offered for E-6/E-7 13Ms but in the in the last couple, it was as high as a tier-6 bonus and is currently sitting at a tier-4 bonus (currently a tier-4 bonus is a $17,700 SRB for a 60+ month reenlistment).

Other than going to see your S1 or EPM, you might not get the answer you're looking for on here. Your situation sounds too specific and there are many variables. My advice is to treat a bonus as just that, a bonus. Reenlist for personal and family reasons. If you are eligible for more incentives, definitely go out and get them. Work through a decision matrix with pros and cons that include the bonus and then again if the bonus doesn't exist. That will help you plan your future. Good luck.

Sir,
Thank you for the response. The bonus isn't a make or break for me as I plan to re-enlist once eligible to do so. Just an extra incentive that wouldn't hurt me to not have but would help just to have. I do plan on talking to my retention team Monday to clarify. Just wanted to see if anyone has ever had a similar situation.

SSG(P) (Join to see) - Never assume a bonus will be there when you get there. Find out the earliest you can reenlist so you can pull the trigger as soon as possible if all conditions are favorable. I regretted reenlisting early years and years ago (different service, different life). I was waiting until we left on a pending deployment to reenlist since I was looking at a tier 6 bonus. I wanted it tax free. That greed cost me all of it. By the time I deployed, the bonus evaporated and I got nothing. The bonus did it's job and there was no deficit when it was my turn.
