So how about this idea: All the NATO countries create a job exchange program where members of the countries apply to get job and language training for another NATO country?

Citizens of a NATO country will have the ability to work in another NATO country.

Possibly on contract. Housing bills and other expenses can be talked about, but this program will be funded by NATO countries.

You mean, like the Military Personnel Exchange Program but for civilians? It makes sense on paper.

Well, I would think if they were seasoned in their particular job field; they would have the discernment to know where to go. This country is built off immigrants.

SGT (Join to see) American workers that work abroad and still have some income in the USA will be charged taxes if you stay more than 30 days in the USA. So if you're going to work outside the usa, make sure you stay out over 11 months otherwise your foreign income exclusion goes away. I'm fighting this right now with the IRS because I live in Canada and I got audited and they hit me with a tax but no penalty because I exceeded 30 days in the USA for one year. There is no exclusion for military in the Army reserver National Guard. Even if your employer asks you but I'm going to try to fight it. Just words to the wise

LTC (Join to see) I wish you the best for this. That’s what I mean. I believe with all the assistance we are giving to Europe in the political sector of today we should be able to work out an agreement that would exempt members of the program from independent taxes. Whatever makes sense but off the top of my head, it will be a contract agreement if the employee would like to stay in the excepting country and become a citizen through the program and receive benefits on both ends.

LTC (Join to see) Training could happen for United States citizens to become electricians in a EU country and vice versa. Training would happen for that employee to prepare him or her to live sufficiently, and that accepting country. Another branch of access, including the armed forces that we share now.

Having served the bulk of my career in Europe I do not see the value in such a program, what is to be gained as these cultures are already wide open to each other.

Who pays for the language studies housing etc. many of the EU/NATO countries are hard pressed to cover their debt let alone take on another. On the other hand what would the US have to gain even if there was such a program.

Anyway it sounds fun, just not practical. By the way there is a truly robust student exchange program ongoing around the globe.

Just my thoughts.
