Hello,

Someone, please explain to me, if I qualify. I picked up an E-5 this month and want to reclass. 25E is the best option for me, but I am confused about requirements. My TIS is 2,5 years.
The question is, if my TIS and TIG are ineligible for an E6 promotion, am I eligible for the Special MOS Alignment Promotion Program?

This is from SMAPP:

a. Must meet qualifications for promotion to the next higher rank, including minimum time in service and time in grade requirements. Soldiers are not required to be a graduate of Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development System (NCOPDS) nor be in a promotable status. Provided they are otherwise eligible in accordance with AR 600-8-19, paragraph 1-11 (including required NCOPDS) Soldiers will be promoted effective on the graduation date from the MOS-qualifying schools, which occurs after all training phases are completed and the MOS is awarded. When Soldiers complete the MOS-qualifying training without having first met the NCOPDS requirements for promotion as provided for in AR 600-8-19, paragraph 1-29, the promotion will be effective the date the NCOPDS requirement is met. See AR 600-8-19, paragraph 1-35 for additional information.

(a) Must be a sergeant; Soldiers will be promoted to staff sergeant upon graduation and award of MOS 25E.

This is from U.S. Army Signal School:

Active Army, National Guard and Reserve Component SGT - MSG with less than 12 years in service who are assigned to, or are expected to be assigned to, a position requiring classification as MOS 25E30.

Reclass questions need to be directed to your Career Counselor. Your Career Counselor processes your reclass request and you are not referencing the correct qualification source documents for the MOS.

As far as SMAPP goes, as long as you meet ALL other requirements except being promotable, your reclass can be processed under SMAPP while you are a non promotable SGT

Hello SFC,
Thank you for your answer, I did indeed specify the wrong document, MILPER Message Number 22-361 would be much more correct.

As for the Career Counselor, I've been in contact with him for two days in a row (yesterday and the day before), I'll start the process on Monday. At the moment, I would like to know about my chances from qualified people like you.

Thanks again for your response.

SGT (Join to see) as I stated, the SMAPP message is not the source document(s) for the MOS prerequisites, and neither is the school website. Unless you brought your government computer home for the weekend and can VPN into NIPR, you can't pull up all the prerequisites

You check with your Retention NCO, always the quickest and usually the best way as they get involved later anyway.

Hello CSM,
I absolutely agree with you, that's why since the day before yesterday I've been asking questions about this to my Retention NCO. Unfortunately, he is busy and will start the process next week. I wanted to ask people who may have experience and knowledge in this matter.
Thank you for your response.
