I would like to relocate to Los Angeles, CA or the surrounding cities in that area. But I am facing difficulties when it comes to housing. I am service-connected (disability) and was wondering if I can receive some assistance with housing for my daughter and myself (I am not opposed to receiving financial assistance as well, even if its temporary financial assistance). My lease ends May 2023.

I have found that over the years Military OneSource is a good place to start [login to see] ) when it comes to asking military benefit questions. Then, take what info they give you and contact the VA, to ask more pointed questions. From there you can go to state and city organizations.

1LT (Join to see) Absolutely, nothing wrong with counseling for stress. There’s good stress and bad stress. I believe this is good stress for me.

In All Seriousness,
Having Lived In California & Experienced The Cost Of Living, My Question Is:
"Of All The Places To Live, Where One CAN Afford To Live,
WHY Would You Select ANYWHERE In California?

Perhaps You May Prefer Kentucky Or Tennessee,
BOTH Have A Reasonable Costs Of Living
And Beautiful Places As Well.....
Of The States I've Been To, Those 2 Come Out On Top.

All I'm Doing Is Trying To Help Keep You
From Making a POSSIBLE Mistake.
And I'm Speaking From Experience, I Use To Live There;
What Better Advice Could You Possibly Get?
Nothing Else Need Be Said.
I About Covered It All.
But At Least You Know
And You've Been Told.
Go From There, You're On Your Own.

"Ignorance" Does NOT Mean "Stupid"...
It Only Mean "Lack Of Knowledge".
When One Doesn't Know Something They're Simply Ignorant Of The Facts.
When Someone Is Stupid,
It Means "They HAVE The Information, But Screw Up, Just The Same"
Like Knowing You'll Die If You Jump Off A Cliff,
But Jump ANYWAY..
That IS "Stupid", It's NOT "Ignorant."

A1C Medrick "Rick" DeVaney - I get it, but not everybody does. Just keep in mind that the communication is a fine art, and it is possible to say all the right things and still have your message come across negatively.

I do know from experience you're not likely to talk someone out of a relocating to a destination they have their minds set on. Besides, there could be more than meets the eye, such as resources and/or opportunities that are unique to that region.

As far as I can remember, the VA doesn't provide anything directly for housing, but if I'm not mistaken you have to qualify through Federal Affordable Housing first. Although, from what I've read, the waiting list for that in some cases can take years. However, if you're a veteran and qualify, you get moved to the top of the list. On second thought, I believe there is a special section specifically apportioned for veterans.

After that, the VA will assist you with locating suitable housing. They may also make benefits adjustments for any special accommodations/needs you may have to help you with your disability -- ratings dependent.

I have to admit that its been years since I read through those pamphlets and books provided at the federal building, so please don't hate me if this isn't 100% accurate.
