I have recently transfered to a Civil Affairs Unit. Coming from NG to USAR, it has been a good move. One of my goals has been to get into more high speed training. I would like to take the CA Q course( another ESO had done it without reclassing) and go to jump school. I talked to my section NCO and he said he would get me squared away. I have faith they will do everything they can, but it did make me wonder. Realistically, as a AMEDD officer in a non AMEDD unit, what are my chances of doing training like what I mentioned above. I know I can reclass, but I haven't made up my mind yet.

I once knew a LTC Nurse Who was also in Psyop. AAMED can also loan you to Civil Affairs. There are a few civil affairs units in the USAR that airborne. Civil affairs soldiers can also Qualify to go to army language school at Monterey. Some civil affairs soldiers also went to Air assault. I left civil affairs to go to a training division in 2012. Some here can let you know if those are still the same opportunities. 3 and a 1/2 years ago I made lieutenant colonel and civil affairs and it was a 90% selection rate. This will not hurt your career.

Thank you Sir for this info. Coming from the NG things have been very different and I wasn't sure what to expect. There also may be a AMEDD command opportunity relatively soon I may have to consider.

Sir,
there are active jumping CA units that you could get into. Unless I am mistaken you should not have to reclass to get into the CA Q course as medical services are one of the things that CA offers.

Thank you MSG Estermyer. Do you know where in the regs this is supported? I'd like to be able to present it to my CoC.
