I recently enlisted as an 11b. I did not know about the option 40 contract until after I signed. I have not gone to basic training yet. I want to become a ranger and serve in the 75th RR. To my knowledge I meet all requirements to be eligible. What steps should I take from here to be able to get a spot at RASP?

Ranger Recruiters will usually come to your basic training. If they don't, volunteer for Airborne, they come to every airborne class to recruit. If you don't get to go to Airborne then you just email your SRB to [login to see]

LCpl Benji Smith I definitely did not catch that because he mentioned Option 40 which is only an AD enlistment option

LCpl Benji Smith - I missed that initially too. Maybe someone "told him" he could join NG, transfer AD right into the 75th if he gets a Ranger seat at basic.
If PVT (Join to see) wants "to become a ranger and serve in the 75th RR" and has not shipped to basic, he needs to go AD first or its going to be a long hard ride.

You can try to go to RASP when you join. It's not limited to initial contacts. I would highly recommend going to a unit first and having a solid understanding of Infantry fundamentals and then go to rasp.

May I ask why? I hear that they choose new and younger people because they can shape them into whatever they want them to be. I could be wrong. Plz explain.

Outside the offer at Infantry OSUT training made to the Regular Army folks (never extended to NG). It's very tough because the slots are used to retain individuals the Army wants to keep. So lets say your at the 101st Airborne or some other high speed Active Army unit already. You might get 1-3 Ranger slots a year and then they never ask "who wants to go to Ranger school?" they generally approach Soldiers they want to retain in the unit and in the Army and ask them. So they kind of use it as an incentive and so they start with a selected preference list usually. If your in the NG, next to impossible unless your NG unit requires a Ranger tab. That is because of the expense.
