I selected to reclassify into the Army Band(42R). My reclass packet already made it up to HRC, but mistakenly I was put to reclass to another MOS. My Career Counselor was able to catch the error, and HRC is currently working to fix it.

My AEA/Dt says M/20210801. I understand the M code, but I'm not sure what is the purpose of the date. Will that be the expiration date or the date I'm eligible to reclassify.

My packet was submitted in late April, and my ETS date is within five months. I'm aware I need to reenlist, etc. I just need someone to shed some light.

Thank you!

The purpose of the date is the end date for the AEA Code. If you don't reenlist by then you you're available to be placed on assignment by your branch manager.

You need an audition with a band master for 42R. If you didn't audition your request will be turned back at HRC. Most band members have a degree in music and a decade or so of experience. Then you need to have a class seat. I've never seen a class seat for 42R in 10 years. I can tell you that there isn't one right now. Even if it were an MOS that has occasional class seats, five months isn't usually enough time to get the specific MOS class seat you want.

I would very, very strongly suggest against 42R. They are almost always over strength and it's almost impossible to promote to SSG. If your goal is to be forced out be forced out due to RCP at 14 years then 42R is a good choice. One of my junior Counselors was a 42R and she switched out after 10 years as a SGT because she couldn't get promoted.

Whether you choose this MOS or another you need to do an extension now and start looking for class seats again in September. That's when HRC will start loading the FY23 class seats for other MOS's.
