So I've had an issue twice now with the gate guards on fort bragg and the motorcycle ppe regulations. The regs state that we can wear over the ankle shoes, but the gate guards and blue suitors make up their own rules. Is there some way of speaking to someone to fix this ? how should I go about this? its getting tiring getting harassed over something thats within regs.

You need the Fort Bragg regulation, FB 385-10. The key word they are using is "sturdy" over the ankle, it then specifies sturdy as shoes made with leather or ballistic material. Basketball shoes and chucks, while over the ankle, are not made from either material and therfore not allowed. Check out TCX for riding shoes that meet the standard that dont look like clown shoes.
At least they do not check our Basic Rider Card everytime we roll in the gate anymore.

SGT (Join to see) Div Pam only applies to 82 and it references the FB regulation, gate guards wont care what div pam says.
I understand your fight as I prefer to wear chucks, but you won't win this with the ECPs. If you think your shoes meet standard fo talk to your BDE safety person. OR take them to the garrison safety office behind to Pope Theater, if they concur then go to Department of Emergency Services, find the person in charge of ECPs, and talk with them.

Carry the reg on you, with the appropriate portion highlighted. Then you can show it if needed.

WAY back when in BDUs, when pressing and starching was the norm, I did the same things because I always roll pressed my uniform, per regulation, which is done specifically to AVOID the sharp creases which everyone viewed as "the mark of a good Soldier." Any time an NCO tried to give me shit, I informed them that I was following regulation, cited the paragraph, and showed them in black and white. I did not, however, directly point out that THEY were out of regulation, I just let it hang there unsaid.

Of course, I had *way* more attitude than my rank could handle, and I did find myself facing a couple of different Article 15s... so be careful in HOW you present the information.

Gonna go out on a limb here and say the POST policy (not the DA reg) probably prescribes "sturdy" over the ankle footwear. While Uggs meet the "over the ankle" criteria, I would in no way consider them "sturdy" footwear. Before I retired, WPAFB had a base policy that specifically stated over the ankle "sturdy leather and/or ballistic material". This may be what the guards are keying on. If you're rolling around looking like Jax Teller a la "Sons of Anarchy" with your Air Jordan's, I can see why they are stopping you every time.

First thing I would do is contact the Provost Marshal (or your own S1 shop may have it) and obtain a copy of the Post Policy. See what it says specifically about acceptable footwear. Second thing I would do is carry said policy with me and next time I got hassled, I would POLITELY display the letter with applicable paragraph highlighted and have the guard explain why they think my footwear does not meet the standard.

I'm betting this boils down to a lack of education and understanding on one or both parties involved.
