I remember my first day coming through the gate at Ft. Lee back in 1997 when I was assigned there for CLOAC. As a Marine officer, I was not used to the saluting slogans that the Army used. When the soldier at the gate saluted me, and since Ft. Lee is a TRADOC post, he said "train to fight sir!". Not knowing how to reply, I quickly said "shoot to kill, sergeant!". I remember laughing later when I discussed it with my Army colleagues and thought that since many units have their own slogans (82nd, 101st, 3rd ACR, etc...) that Sergeant must have wondered what sort of awesome unit has "shoot to kill" as their slogan

I'm designing a new family coat of arms - I'm going to use that as my families slogan!:
"ut mitterent interficere"

I Was An Enlistee In The USAF.... I Don't Recall Having Any Slogans, But I WILL Tell You About This: ~~ One Late Afternoon, Airman David Libby & I Were Heading To The Mail Room As A 2nd Lt Was Headed Our Way... Dave Whispered To Me "Let's Not Salute Him, Just To See What Happens". So As He Got Closer, We Looked Down At The Sidewalk, As Though We Not Noticed Him; ...Immediately After He Passed, His Voice Rang Out As He Said "AIRMEN, Don't You Salute Officers"?.....Dave & I Turned Around And Dave Stated, As Though It Were True ~ "SIR, Are You NOT Aware Of The New Base Regulation~ (Then Whipped Out A Few Arbitrary Numbers, With A Letter Or 2, And Continued With)~ Which Clearly States "After 1300 Hours On Week Ends, Saluting In No Longer Require Until Monday Mornings"?....The 2nd Lt. Apologized & Thanked Dave For The Information...
