Adaptation of classic military icons have been around forever. Are there some icons that should be exempt from commercialization? Especially if the pop culture it incorporates into the new art disrespects the original? https://www.underarmour.com/en-us/mens-ua-band-of-ballers-t-shirt/pid1254420-025

I see it as a way of branching out to a younger generation who may not be familiar with the importance of that image. For instance, a young man sees this image on the shirt and likes it and either sees it sometime later down the road or has a familiar recollection of it. In both cases, he may be prompted to research the image and learn about an important moment in US military history.
Additionally, this is an excellent marketing angle for Under Armour. There are many military members and veterans out there who can take two things that define them (basketball and patriotism) and make it a part of their gear during pickup games or even during intramural games on an installation.
In my opinion, there is no blatant disrespect towards our flag, our veterans/military or one of the most iconic images of World War II. In fact, it honors them by using a reference from the sports world to keep the memory of that day from fading into the annals of history textbooks or some page on Wikipedia.

Here is the thing, they are going to make money wether the sell this or take it of the market and sell another style.
I don't like the fact that they used this, but if you look at it from another perspective, you can see that they feel an iconic imagine like the Iwo Jima flag raising is so important and influential that they would use it as a marketing tool. Is it right, my opinion is No!
But at the end of the day, you either buy it or you don't!!
