Europe lost their 4 star and it was moved to the Pacific (The Pacific used to be a 3 star billet, we can only have 10 active duty four star generals in the army, per our laws). The Army is moving more soldiers to the pacific and participating in more exercises. Some marine generals are upset at this, some are saying there is enough room for everybody.

The Army is winding down in the middle east and believes that Asia is the next hotspot and according to a recent Washington Post article, some believe the army will be irrelevant if they do not move to the pacific since the marines, air force and navy have a large presence.

Who is our top enemy there? China, North Korea? Thoughts?

I understand the reason for the "pivot," however I do think there are still enough threats elsewhere at the moment that it is a mistake to focus so heavily on just this one part of the world.  That being said, I see China as our biggest long term threat in the Pacific, and, despite the enormous amount of trade between us, a Cold War type of situation evolving.  The problem is that as a society we in the US view things more short term and that is the wind that our political leadership follows, whereas the Chinese are planning for the long term and are playing the Pacific like a chess board, and though we may know what is coming they are two moves ahead of us.  I fear that they believe that we don't have the will as a nation to step in and forcefully stop them from eventually taking what they want, and I fear even more that they may be right.
