Will submitting a Warrant Packet get me extended in Korea?

Long story short. I am currently in Korea with six months to go. I already have orders to Fort Bragg. I am scheduled to submit my Warrant Packet in mid March. My DEROS is 16 August. If selected, will I be extended in Korea until my school date or will I proceed on orders to Fort Bragg to await my school date?

What month are you being boarded? If you are boarded and selected prior to your PCS it might, but only if HRC Enlisted Branch catches on. HRC Officer Branch is the one that cuts your RFO so it's possible one hand won't know what the other's doing. If you are selected they will code you for Officer Accession so most likely MPD won't cut your orders in that instance, but if you already have orders in hand before you get selected/coded then you should still be able to PCS if you don't bring it up. If you want to extend (to minimize PCS's) then I almost guarantee they would approve it. If you want to PCS on time, just don't say anything.

CW4 Keith Dolliver I will definitely give them a call. I was planning to anyway but it’s always good to get different perspectives before making decisions like this. You’ve been a big help sir. I really appreciate it.

SFC (Join to see) actually I can tell you from experience where this goes. We had the same exact thing happen last year. Also, the WO Recruiter isn't the one to ask, they only know as much as it takes to get you into WOCS. WO Accession is the branch to talk to, they are the ones who actually have a say in what happens to You. As a rule, Recruiters are no help once they've gotten you into whatever program they recruited you for, that's not their job or expertise.
The short answer is that once you are selected, your AEA Code goes from L to I and your branch can no longer touch you. Your Enlisted assignment also gets deleted because you now belong to the Officer accession branch.
If you reenlisted for the assignment, as happened with our guy last year, you have to delete the assignment. HRC can't request deletion of an assignment that a Soldier requests through reenlistment.
As an example, this Soldier reenlisted for Hawaii. Shortly before PCSing he was selected for WOCS. He wanted to PCS and attend WOCS when it was time...his class date was about four months after his PCS. We explained to him that he either had to give up his duty station or his WOCS class seat. He argued it was a breach of contract. He even called IG. Finally, he called the WOCS accession branch who explained that they would usually delete his assignment but could not because he reenlisted for it. So, he would either have to delete his assignment or reapply to WOCS on the next board while he was in Hawaii. He chose to delete his assignment

SFC (Join to see) Thanks for the reply. This will be good information to have while I’m trying to figure this all out.

I’m a little late to this party but I was in the same position last year. I dropped my packet for 915 in January of 2020 and got selected in May after all the COVID issues prevented boards from meeting. I had orders in hand to PCS in September of 2020 but they got deleted once I was selected. My DEROS was then extended to match my report date to WOCS, which just happened to be about 14 months away. It’s been a long journey for me here in Korea, closing in on my three year mark, but I am more than sure it will be worth it. I would submit now! If you meet the criteria and have the LORs backing you now, don’t wait.
