Since COVID-19 I've been up to numerous projects, my most current one is putting together a shadowbox for my Dad and I. My Dad just entered the fleet reserves a couple days ago and soon to retire in January after serving 28 years in the Navy as a BM and MA. I would like the medals to look as sharp as possible so I figured I'd look into how the sentinels (or just honor guard in general) put together their medals. After some googling I still have yet to find an answer anywhere. They clearly don't use typical medal mounting techniques or have a third-party service like ultra thin do it for them. Thanks for the help and answers in advance!

We used miniature medals in my shadowbox and hung them separate so you can actually see them individually. I guess you have to choose how you want to display them.

EOD and an MTI alongside with a marksmanship badge? I bet you have a few interesting stories. It's always interesting seeing other folks shadowboxes.

Mathew Donaldson - Thanks. The Instructor badge was from 5 1/2 years at EOD School. I created a few EOD Techs and weeded a few out that were a danger to themselves and those around them. I never got to do MTI, although I think it would've been interesting. A few interesting stories from places around the world. Not enough to make a book, as I thankfully never got blown up or shot. 10 fingers and toes and mostly functional I guess.
I like to see what stories other folk's shadow boxes tell as well. Tell your Dad congrats for a long career.

Does the USAF (or any other branch really) have a "Master Blaster" or a title for the enlisted senior-most EOD tech similar to the Navy? Do they also call their EOD badge a "crab" as well?

Mathew Donaldson - Yes, all 4 services go through the same school so we all call the EOD Badge a crab. It was called that because the school house used to be in Maryland. Still called a crab out of tradition.

The mounting is pretty standard to what you see commercially but the difference is the backing used behind the medal. You use something hard and dense like a credit card. It is harder than cardboard and holds it shape better and really makes the medal pop.
I served 2 years at 8th and I with the Silent Drill Platoon and that seemed to be the standard technique the branches used while I was there.

SSgt Christophe Murphy With ‘connections’, the elder son and myself were privileged to see the Band and Silent Drill Platoon at Camp Pendleton. We did enjoy a few words with them after the performance. Regretfully, I was no longer able to execute Inspection Arms with an M-1. Years ago, I did not appreciate having the strength for such movements, now that I cannot, I do!

CW2 (Join to see) - That is great. I spent 6 years in exceptional Junior High School and Senior High School Marching Bands. My one Jr High band was invited and participated in the Cotton Bowl shows. Two of of my High School bands were invited to the Rose Bowl Parade, but we did not go. The first one did the first pre-game show in Texas Stadium (the old Cowboys Stadium) in Irving, TX. The last one instead participated in that years Cotton Bowl shows.
At the time the Aggie Band was one of my possible goals.

SSG Robert Webster - Nice my HS did the Hollywood Bowl parade in 00, our 02 trip was cancelled due to some jerks from Al Qaeda. Did a year a UT Arlington where we played all over in 02-03. (only college in the nation to have a marching band but no football team!). We played the Rangers stadium and the Astrodome that year
