I am currently aware that the MEPS process will be the typical experience as I have been out for a length of time, but am curious as to what will happen after the process, all things going accordingly. I have passed my 8 years of obligated and am looking to re-enlist and pursue OCS, options of which are unknown to me at this time as I have yet to speak with a GC at MEPS.

What am I to expect once going OCS? As prior service (E-4) now with a 4 year degree, will I be heading to Bliss (old home away from) first or will I be heading straight off to Benning? I have seen conflicting information saying that since I have a degree already, I start off commissioned, but that didn't sound right at all.

Any and all information is appreciated, thank you for your time.

What have your Officer Recruiter told you? S/he should be able to tell you from the get-go!

SPC Timothy Singer not a biggie. But yes, there’s such a thing as an Officer Recruiters. Each recruiting company has a very few of them, if any. Some instances the mission falls in the Company Commander. So next time you engage them, as profesional as you might be, ask for it. Keep in mind that as a prior service you don’t count towards the general recruiting mission so you won’t break no one’s heart.

SPC Timothy Singer - everything I've seen says that if your break in service is longer than 3 years you will have to repeat at least a portion of BCT. the key is if they consider your IRR time as service. I've seen conflicting data on that one.

Sounds about right LTC (Join to see), but like you stated, how do they considered IRR? And did SPC Timothy Singer participated in the musters; that might count for something... I guess?

MAJ Javier Rivera - I think it all comes down to what the selection board decides. I've seen it go both ways. He won't know until he applies and gets accepted. The recruiter isn't going to be able to tell him what the board will do.

It depends on how long you've been out. Since you are prior enlisted, odds are that you will not have to repeat the BCT part of the process. If accepted, you would be given a class date for OCS.

My 8 years was up October 2019. But I was in the IRR since 2015. I am unsure of what date they would go off of, but figured it would be after the obligated 8.

Thank you for the information!

SPC Timothy Singer - I had an 8 year break in service before I got commissioned and I didn't have to go back through BCT. It really all depends on what the board decides. You really won't know for sure until you actually start the process. Too many different variables they look at, especially in unusual cases. civilians straight out of college and currently serving enlisted applicants are straight forward. but prior service with a break in service is a different matter.

LTC (Join to see) - Thank you for the insight! Upon further reading, I saw that although the Army is usually fairly straightforward and open, there are cases where PS may be restricted/on-standby for re-enlistment's. As the saying goes, dont count your chickens.

Once again, thank you for your time and the added information, every bit counts.

A 4 year degree is not a guarantee for an OCS slot.

MAJ Ken Landgren i would have to pull up my transcripts, Ingraduated last December, but I think I had just missed Deans List so somewhere around low 3.0 I think.

SPC Timothy Singer - So you can visualize the picture. Little chance getting an OCS slot off the street. You enlist and you risk not getting into OCS. I enlisted with a degree 3.0. I finished my OCS packet in AIT and made every attempt to show my chain of command reasons to endorse me for OCS. I was fortunate and got picked up.
