So I am due for my "first look" (secondary zone). Trying to line up all my ducts in a row aside from the redundant "everything must match up", what do you think are the critical tasks that must be accomplished prior to certifiying the "my board file"?

The AAR from the most recent boards are available on the HRC website. Always worth a read when preparing for selection or preparing your Soldiers. Big hits from the last one, mine, were DA photo accuracy, SSD and NCOES completion, and 2-1/ERB accuracy. Best of luck to you!

CPT(P) (Join to see), take a moment and dig up last years SFC Board AAR. Look it over and ensure that you do not fall into any of the areas that were "not looked favorably on." Also, with the release of the MSG Board this week, it does not hurt to look at that AAR either. Let me also suggest that you sit down with your 1SG and BN CSM. Ask them to look over your records and elicit any advice from them. They have sat where you are now. Good luck!!!

Current, accurate photo which matches your updated ERB. NCOERs completed and match the ERB. Inflated NCOERs are easy to spot, very easy to spot! If you are in a new duty position and have not been rated for it yet, the Complete the Record option should be used - IF you have done enough to justify a stellar report else, continue marching. Have you continued improving yourself physically, mentally and emotionally? If so, it will show with course completions (mil & civ education). If there are errors, you have a couple three weeks to get it fix, so fix it! You are responsible for your records but always seek out someone within your career field (a senior CSM) to review your records....

CSM,

I have done all the Army has asked of me, minus a special duty. Is this a big deterrent? I got my degree, held position within my scope, and worked outside of my MOS. What else?

SSG Lord,

Review 600-25 and ensure you are meeting your career milestones. You need a broadening assignment as a SSG.
