What is the proper list of events to which a veteran may where may wear his or her uniform. In some cases, it is clear, I can wear my uniform to a Veteran's Day event. But in other cases it is not so clear. May I wear my uniform to most any civilian semi-formal or formal event, or are the regulations more restrictive than that?

I have worn my uniform once since I retired, and it was to commission my son a Second Lieutenant in the USA. An obviously appropriate use according to AR 670-1. It had been 12 years since I retired, my old blues did not fit anymore, so I bought a new set. Yeah, I tried to tell my son I was going to show up in a civilian suit, that did not go over well. He said he understood, but I could hear between the words and he wanted me in uniform. Hey, you only commission your son once in life, so I bought it.

When my Son graduated from Air Force BCT I granted his wish and wore my Army blues. It was an honor for me to have him give me his first official salute as an Airman.

I enlisted in the Navy a long time ago, but if my son or daughter were going to get commissioned, I would wear a “facsimile” of my Crackerjacks. It would be the same if they decided to go to law school and graduate, I would wear my hood and gown to “Hood” them at graduation.

Since the courts have decided that its alright for FAKE veterans to wear the uniform any time the like I don't see why there should be restrictions on real veterans.

I hadn't thought of it that way. Mine is in a box packed away. It doesn't fit anymore, anyway.

SGM Erik Marquez it's a valid perception or judgment. There is no need to wear the uniform outside of being in the military except for a person trying to gain recognition or attention. Do I really care? Absolutely not and I could honestly care less. I have merely pointed out my opinion on the matter and expressed my selfless service, humbleness, and modesty.
Being an individual isn't an answer, and for sure wearing a uniform that represents being apart of a team definitely does not scream I'm an individual.

SFC William Sutherland III - Wear the rented suit, but wear a lapel of your branch of your service or unit you were with on your lapel. The day is about your son, keep the focus on them.

ALCON; its a done deal, I went in uniform, had my Son Captain inspect it with while emphasing if there were any issues I’d take it off and wear my blue suit. We all went in Dress Blues....

I think it is an honor to wear the uniform. After 20 years of totally enjoying the profession, serving my country, I love my uniform. If AR670-1 would allow it, I'd wear it to church or anywhere else. Excellent suit (uniform).
