If I go active, will I have to repay a non-prior service bonus I received when I joined the Army Reserves?

Depends on the amount you’ve received. If you received the entire bonus, you’d pay a portion back. You will forfeit the unearned portion of your bonus at a prorated rate.

SPC(P) James Baldwin you’ll need to do some maths to figure it out. Bonus divided months enlisted. The number of months served is the amount you’ve earned

If you go Active before your Reserve contract is completed you will have to pay some or all of it back. A word of advice if you do go Active; make sure you put away enough money into savings in case they take back the bonus in one lump sum. My Reserves commander did not pro-rate the bonus so I ended up with one(?) 'no pay due'. It was a shock to me, but I had some money put away in savings so I wasn't totally screwed for the month or two.

My suggestion would be finish your contract then switch to active otherwise you’re going to have to pay back most if not all of what you were provided for your contract.
Why not check and see if there is a slot open to deploy with a unit if you want active duty benefits and not worry about your contract obligations?

A SFC told me that my contract would be continued on active side he said id have the same ETS date and my contract would just switch to active now I’m not sure if that’s true or not but that’s what I was told

You would need to speak to probably either someone in retention or HRC to confirm that. SPC(P) James Baldwin

SPC(P) James Baldwin - Things may have changed since I made the switch, but my Active Duty contract was a whole new contract with a different ETS date. Talk to an Active Duty recruiter.
