I had to leave my job due to an injury and I am insecure and in-between looking for another job or starting my own business?

I recently graduated with a PhD Healthcare Administration. Thinking of semi-retiring with a small travel business of my own, but still would love to work for 10 more years or so?

PO2 Jacqueline Roeshink The choice is yours to make but it would be good to put your new PhD to work and you would not be doing that with a small travel business. With the Coronavirus, folks are not going to be doing much traveling until a vaccine is found, and even then, the travel business will be a tough business. Good luck.

PO2 Jacqueline Roeshink I would wait on a Travel Business. Most small businesses don't see a profit for 5 years. Many small business owners continue to work a 9-5 or their spouse does while they also work their business to retain medical benefits etc until they can get it off the ground.
Healthcare administrators have many full, part time, and contracting opportunities. My neighbor is a Healthcare Admministrator and a "relief pitcher" for nursing homes. he is gone a third of the time. Last time was four months straight.
Not sure how your injury plays into this, but I can't imagine a scenario where a Healthcare Administrator is lifting, carrying, etc. I get the wanting to,pursue a dream or seeking more fulfillment parts, but it takes significant energy to rebrand yourself and jump into another field with no springboard. I just did it, and I landed in a different place than what I was trying to get to. Now I have to claw the rest of the way

Having been a Practice Administrator, I've seen many local medical practices either sell out to local hospitals or struggle to reduce costs and remain independent. You might want to analyze the local market and determine whether starting a Practice Administrative business that services multiple practices. If it proves profitable, you could hire people to do the leg work and gain some independence.

Before you invest in a travel agency, you need to look around and try to find out what happened to all the small travel agencies that aren’t there anymore
There are a few large operators then there are the 100s of wholesalers and consolidators on the internet. That and the airlines cut travel agents to a flat fee a few years back instead of a percentage. Same now with hotels and rental cars. I personally use the big guys,mostly COSTCO travel Ot Travelocity, because they can get me better deals.
It would be a shame to waste all that studying you did to a Piled High Deeper behind your name.
