BCTs and smaller units are closing these days as the Army downsizes. I am sure in the other branches units are also closing. I am going to a WTU that will be closing by the end of next year. Those who have worked in units that closed and cased their colors, I would like to hear from you. What are the most important concerns? As a Chaplain, I provide pastoral care. I am aware that several civilian employees may be facing job insecurity with the impending closing. How best can I provide care? What issues should I be aware of in a unit that is in the process of closing? Inventory, accountability, etc....yes. Got it. But what about legacies, unit history, personnel, etc? Seems to be a lot of emotion involved with closing a unit. I specifically am looking for ways to help smooth the transition from the Chaplain position. Any serious suggestions on how to advise the Commander would be helpful.

First, last, and only thing to be concerned about is what's going to happen to the Soldiers. Commanders and 1SGs can always find a billet somewhere. Mission first, people always
