What are your opinions on how the Army (military as a whole) is handling this transition to peacetime/downsizing?

The time has come. The military MUST get smaller; but are the wrong leaders being driven away from the service? This is certainly not the first downsize in US military history, but are we doomed to make the same mistakes?
The U.S. military is one of America’s premier leadership factories. But its product is in decline.

I gotta say, I don't believe the US is at all in a "peace time", as we still have active troops, outside of SOCOM, deploying to combat zones. Besides the point, I do, in some cases believe the wrong leaders are being driven away, while many less competent leaders are still holding rank/positions in the active component.

I agree that the army needs to downsize however I feel as if we are losing some great leaders and some great Soldiers/Future leaders during this process also with the downsizing comes the large budget cuts which will end up biting us in the A** when we end up getting the call again because with these budget cuts I have seen problems with getting equipment fixed and operational, and training take hits due to a lack of funds. At the end of the day they need to find a better way to deal with the downsizing and ensure we are keeping the right people, as well as finding other places to make cuts instead of continually taking it from the military otherwise we will not be ready when the country needs to call on us again.
