Do not take them there, Hawaii education system is the worst Ive seen in my life. They will problay be one of the few gifted and talented kids but they will be in comparison to the hawaiian kids. Take a look online and see where hawaii ranks nationally with education.
I was stationed there for almost 5 years two of whicih I was deployed but I wouldnt bring my kids over to live. I think taking your kids to hawaii will hurt them. The schools usually had an early release on Wednesdays and they were out of school every other Friday.
I hope you well. Which unit are you going too, I was in 130th 65th En Bn, 95th En Co.

SFC Ward,
Thanks for taking your time to answer. I am going to the 130th EN BDE. I think I will have to put them in Private school.

MSG M,
I was stationed at Fort Shafter while the wife was stationed at Schofield...just retired a couple of months ago and stayed in Hawaii. We live in Ewa Beach (Ocean Pointe) and there are a few schools (intermediate, elementary and even high school) within "walking distance" (a couple within Ocean Pointe) so if transportation is a concern, location will not be an issue. The houses in the area are newer and were built from 2005 or later and I have seen quite a few rentals (both townhomes and single family houses). When my wife commuted from Ocean Pointe to Schofield, it didn't take her that long to get there, although sometimes it takes her longer to get from the Lyman or Foote gate to her work.
I have no kids at home so I can't vouch for the quality of schools (as I've heard Hawaii has lousy public schools), but use the link that MAJ Frobe provided and that should provide you the info you need.

LCOL. Not to help the SGT but I lived in Eva Beach before I moved on base. School were not the worse I had seen, but not the best. There must be a old section of Eva Beach.

I am not sure on the school systems (I was single when stationed there). However, I found the North Shore to be a great place. I lived in Waialua which offered a reasonable cost, a short 20 minute drive to post, and a lot of neat outdoors adventures right on your doorstep. I hope this helps!
