I know the overseas service bar is 6 consecutive months overseas. We went Kuwait for 9 months and our 1SG had everyone get the service bar sewn on with the award. I can't seem to find any info about Kuwait because I know it used to be service bar and patch but not sure about it now.

SSG (Join to see) use para 19-28 in AR670-1 dated May 2017 and find the award period and operation. You'll need to find the AOR where it is authorized. That is usually in the MILPER Message, which I can no longer search.

If you are talking OIR, I could not find a open source description of the AOR.

From. AR670-1 19–28. Overseas service bars

(15) Participation in OIR, in the CENTCOM area of operations, and under the control of the Combatant Commander, CENTCOM, between 15 June 2014 and a date to be determined. The months of arrival to, and departure from the CENTCOM area of operations are counted as whole months.

My orders day OEF and not OIR so I don't know if this applies differently to Soldiers in the same country with orders supporting different operations. I've actually pushed this question to my G1.

LTC (Join to see) operation is specified in 670-1 so it matters

I had to write an official memo for each Soldier specifying our length of service band the commands we fell under signed by our CO
